Canned Food Drive
After hearing that the FSU Dean of Student’s Food Pantry, a donation based collection of non-perishable food items for less fortunate students, was running low on donations, our chapter decided to take the initiative to help. Our Service and Outreach Committee, composed of 15 Leadership Council members eager to help our students through academic and social service, created a competitive Canned Food Drive amongst the other committees to help out the Dean of Student’s Food Pantry. Each committee competed against each other, and the committee with the most items donated was rewarded with a pizza party. In the end, we collected over 300 items for the Food Pantry. The amount of support we received, not only from our highly generous (and competitive) members, but from other advisors and faculty that heard of our contributions, was truly remarkable. Each week we turned in our donations, and each week, the faculty in charge of overseeing the Food Pantry were more than appreciative. Our food was quickly consumed; a humbling experience as we realized how much the students truly needed our help. Our chapter is full of generous and selfless leaders who strive to better not just themselves, but our campus and community as a whole.
